Recruitment at The Alpine Cookery Course
At The Alpine Cookery Course we offer all that attend one of our courses a free recruitment service. We work closely with a number of ski companies, large and small who have a selection of jobs on offer in many resorts and countries across the Alps.
Our courses are well respected within the industry for providing excellent teaching and our previous students have always excelled in the jobs because they have been well prepared and are under no illusions of what a job in the Alps is all about. Employers come directly to us to recruit our students because they know they will be getting the best available, who have been trained to a high standard, with confidence in the kitchen and the added benefit of having been provided with a well rounded view of the jobs available for them.
On each course we invite at least one recruitment managers from a ski companie to visit us though the week to talk to you about the company they work for and job opportunities they have for that current season. This is an ideal chance to talk to potential employers, ask questions and even have an interview. For this reason we ask all our course attendees to bring a current copy of their CV and any menu plans they may have done previously to give to potential employers.
Once you have spoken to the employers we leave you to follow up the correspondence with them and secure the job you want. We also encourage you look for other job opportunities yourself within the industry. There are hundreds of companies offering many types of jobs in the Alps, there are websites such as SkiJobs.co.uk and www.seasonworkers.com who advertise ski jobs.
We do not offer a job guarantee as we feel this is unrealistic, but we are delighted to give anyone who has completed our course a reference for a future job within the industry. Whether you want a job as a chalet host running a chalet on your own as a couple or as an assistant, a job as a resort rep, driver, maintenance man or a managerial role; then with our recruitment service we really can recommend the best job for you.
We are often asked questions like....
..What’s the best resort to go to?
..Who is the best company to work for?
..How much time to you get off?
..What’s the best job to have in a resort?
..How much skiing do you get?
..Do you get a day off?
We aim to answer all of these questions and more with an honest and open minded point of view from our years of experience in the industry and having worked in many job roles ourselves.
To help you decide - ask yourself a few simple questions....
..Do I want to work in a particular ski resort?
..Do I want to work as a chalet host or would I be better as a resort rep or manager or an assistant?
..Do I want to be in a particular country?
..Do I want to work for a large company or a smaller independent tour operator?
By answering these it can help you narrow your field of choice down and making a job selection more specific for your attributes and ambitions. For example if you want to work in Val d’Isere there is no point in applying to a company that only has jobs in a resort in Switzerland; if you burn anything you try to cook and hate cleaning but are a good communicator and team player then go for a resort rep job; you speak fluent Italian so look at companies that have jobs in that country; you want to work within a small team of people who all know each other, so focus your job search to smaller operators and avoid the large companies.
This really helps anyone to narrow their search field and if you are more specific about what you want to do and knowledgeable about a specific job you stand a much better chance of getting the job you want, it is also much easier to place you into a job when you have a clear goal of what you want.
Our previous students have gone onto work for a variety of companies in Europe and Amercia such as:
Ski Independence La Chardon Mountain Lodge Alpine Navigations Mrs Miggins Chalets Ski World Ski Total Crystal Holidays Collineige Adventure Base
And we have had a number of people who have gone on to own and run their own chalet businesses
– Breathe & Believe in Chamonix - Manx Ski in Les Carroz - Alpine Pursuits in Morzine/Les Gets - Alp Escape in Chamonix
If you would like to discuss recruitment with us as a potential employee or if you are a ski company/employer then we would be delighted to hear from you.
