Chamonix is a historical mountain town set at the foot of Mont Blanc, just an hours drive from Geneva airport. It is a busy, vibrant place all year round, with the mountains attracting tourists from across the globe for much more than just skiing.
Chamonix’s reputation grew from its spectacular mountains and it became a popular destination for the British gentry and rich people from Switzerland in the 18th & 19th century. When Mont Blanc was conquered in 1786 by two local French men it paved the way for millions of others to flock to Chamonix to climb the peaks that stand above the town. The first winter visitors arrived in 1901 via the new railway, and the first winter Olympic Games were held in Chamonix in 1924.
Now, the town has a very cosmopolitan feel to it. Its busy high street offers even the most avid shopper enough to keep them busy for a few hours. The town is packed with a variety of cafes, bars, pubs and nightclubs as well as a restaurants ranging from Michelin-starred eateries to the rather more humble burger and chips!
In summer and autumn when we run our courses Chamonix enjoys warm sunny days and the south-facing balcony and garden are the perfect place to enjoy them from. There are many activities that you can do in the valley and you will have one dedicated afternoon away from the kitchen in which to enjoy the outdoors. We can arrange a number of activities on an individual or group basis such as: rock climbing, rafting, hiking, sightseeing trips, tandem paragliding, mountain biking, swimming, tennis, helicopter flights or even a round of golf.
